Fiddler on the Roof is back on Broadway - and bigger than ever. Harvey Fierstein, winner of four Tony Awards is staring as Tevyek and Tony Award winner Andrea Martin stars as his wife, Golde. The story takes place in Anatevka, a small peasant Jewish village in Czarist Russia, at the beginning of the Russian Revolution. Tevyek is the proud father of 5 daughters who wish to marry men they love instead of the promised unions he has arranged. Tevyek, a poor milkman with the dreams of a rich philosopher, is torn by his feelings of tradition. Tevyek holds many conversations with God in an attempt to sort things out. The play takes you through the story of Tevyek and his family's changing world.

Broadway appearance in 1964 at the Imperial Theatre. The production won eight 1965 Tony Awards including Best Musical. The original production of Fiddler on the Roof gave over 3,200 regular performances and made Broadway history as the longest running Broadway show. The screen play which followed was also very successful. This tale of persecution, poverty and the struggle to hold on to one's beliefs made for an unlikely musical composition. However, Fiddler on the Roof has become one of the favorite musicals in America.
